dc.description.abstract | A brief look at certain aspects of understanding of the purpose and importance of posterity in the traditional culture of Serbs reveals the nature of offspring and its irreplaceable place in the ethical system and the general philosophy of living. The experience the Serbs gained over the centuries results in the moral that children are a God's blessing and the greatest treasure one can possess since it is through them that are maintained and eternally present family and human race in general. The offspring represents the power and security of parents which is why sons are most wellcome, but in the long run the important thing is to have as many children as possible regardless of their sex. It is folk wisdom that tells us it is best to procreate offspring when young because of the optimal health conditions for child bearing and upbringing. | en |
