Ideological work of media

Abstract
This article focuses upon ideological nature of media work. Media contribution to social stability and the status quo is identified as their major "ideological effect". Their everyday activity is production of meaning. They naturalize social reality by casting events in familiar taken-for-granted, common sense terms. Do media messages represent the world in a very particular way while claiming to present it "objectively" and "neutrally"? This question guides the analysis of media routines from their "socially defining role" to formation of "dominant discourse". It also provides for how "signifying practice" facilitates the reproduction of the existing order.
U ovom tekstu razmatra se ideološka priroda medijskog rada. Kao njihov glavni ideološki efekat prepoznaje se očuvanje socijalne stabilnosti i statusa quo. Svakodnevni medijski posao je proizvodnja značenja. Mediji naturalizuju stvarnost slikajući događaje familijarnim, nespornim terminima "zdravorazumskog" znanja. Da li, međutim, njihove poruke predstavljaju svet na sasvim specifičan način dok tvrde da to čine "objektvino" i "neutralno"? Ovo pitanje rukovodi analizu svih oblasti medijskog delovanja od "društveno definišuće" uloge do formiranja "dominantnog diskursa". Istovremeno, olakšava uvid u načine na koje "označavajuća praksa" doprinosi nesmetanoj reprodukciji postojećeg poretka.
